Introduction
and welcome speeches
Mr.Jobinson
Kottathil , General Secretary introduced the invited guests
and excused himself for the absence of two ministers
K.C.Venugopal and Anil Kumar and explained the reasons behind
it as political and technical reasons. Joshy Pannarakunnel ,
President welcomed the artists , invited guests from Kerala
and the audience for celebrating the birth of Kerala and the
Youth festival which are conducted every year during this
period. He explained the functioning of the various sub
organizations under World Malayalee Council ,Regional and
country provinces. Anoop Madassery , President of the Youth
Forum spoke in German describing what the youth were doing in
the Swiss province.

Suresh
Gopi : Inaugural Speech
He
started the speech with two words in German : Guten Abend
(Good evening ) with an applause from the audience. He praised
the activities of the NRIs who have contributed to the
development of Kerala with their remittances after paying
taxes in their country of residence. He deplored the current
agricultural crisis of Kerala . We can become IT specialists,
engineers, doctors but we cannot eat air at the dining table .
He admitted that he has never been to Europe though has
travelled to other countries. Within one day he realized the
special geographical features of Switzerland with its
beautiful views of the mountains and lakes and decided to come
over to Switzerland next year with family for a vacation.
Drama
: Jose Pulikottil
One
of the high lights of the evening was the short play directed
by Jose Pulikottil depicting the lives of the landless
labourers who struggled to earn their living under the
landlords who exploited them during the initial years after
the birth of Kerala. The labourers rejoiced at the declaration
of the Government order which made them actual owners of land
where they lived during the rule of the Marxist government
under EMS Namboodiripad. Jose Pulikottil received best artist
award during the ceremony honouring outstanding Swiss NRIS .
Business
Awards for Keralites .
This
was a herculean task of the event. For this WMC Swiss province
brought to Switzerland 24 Keralites including 7 artists with
the assistance of Insight Tours and Travels Kochi. They were
awarded for their outstanding performances in business,
writing, tourism , social work, constructions of homes,
textile distribution etc.. Power point presentations were
shown on the screen about their achievements . Prince
Pallikunnel ( Austria) Prosi Markt, Babu Kasamkattil ( Best
farmer) , Shanty Mathew (Social worker ,Travels) Rojar John(
Pulimootil Textiles,)Marikar company , Roy Varghese
Puraymadom ( writer, Soap factory) , Josco Jewellery,were a
few people who received awards on this occasion and some of
them offered discounts to Swiss NRIs while on their visit to
shops in Kerala. Varghese Paul , editor of Passline, a
business magazine in Kerala ,distributed the copies to Swiss
NRIs and participated actively in the stage programmes by
encouraging them and even singing for Vivek Anand to play the
same on the violin.
Cultural
Evening : Songs, Bollywood dances
Jobinson
Kottathil , General Secretary introduced the various artists
as a professional event manager narrating the their
achievements in the field of entertainment . These well known
artists combined with the local youths to perform a few
Bollywood dances to the delight of the audience. Vivek Anand
and Munna were in the middle of the audience who clapped and
danced to their tunes. Super star Suresh Gopi impressed the
audience with solo and duet songs and when a fan asked for a
dialogue from the audience , he retorted : “poda pulle “
and with another “I am Bharat Chandran – just remember
that “ with the usual gimmicks. Remya Nambisan rendered
fantastic dances with film star Munna.Idea star winners Vivek
Anand and Kalpana Raghavendar along with schintillating dancer
Vishnuraj and keyboard wizhard Anoop made the show a memorable
event.
