KOCHI:
It was a much-prized gift for the Snehalayam Special School. The
new school van sponsored by ‘KELI’, the Switzerland-based
Malayali association, was more of a relief than being just a
gift. The key of the van was handed over by Union Minister K V
Thomas to school principal Sr Sheeba at a function held here on
Friday.
KELI,
which comprises 130 Malayali families, is an association which has
dedicated its services for charitable works to the destitute in
the state. The van was gifted from the money collected by the
children of the KELI association as part of its ‘Kinder to
Kinder’ programme.
The
van is a relief to the inmates of the school who had to otherwise
depend on the services of a hired van to pick up and drop
students.
On
the occasion, K V Thomas said, “If the problems of such schools
are brought to the attention of the government on time, it will do
its best to find a solution. “The service of the Snehanilayam
Special School is appreciable,” he said. Various cultural
programmes by the students Nemi were also held.
